How to Download Minecraft on Every Device (Official Stores)
Your device decides your edition: Windows gets Java and Bedrock, Mac gets Java, phones and consoles get Bedrock. The official store and steps per device.
Your device decides which Minecraft you get. A Windows PC gets both Java and Bedrock in one purchase, a Mac or Linux machine gets Java, and every phone, tablet, Chromebook and console gets Bedrock. You download it from minecraft.net (computers) or from your device’s own app store (everything else). There is no other official source.
Which edition each device gets
| Device | Edition | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 10/11 | Java and Bedrock | Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net, or the Microsoft Store |
| Mac | Java | Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net |
| Linux | Java | Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net |
| Android phone or tablet | Bedrock | Google Play |
| iPhone and iPad | Bedrock | App Store |
| Chromebook | Bedrock | Google Play |
| Xbox One, Series X/S | Bedrock | Microsoft Store on the console |
| PS4, PS5 | Bedrock | PlayStation Store |
| Nintendo Switch | Bedrock | Nintendo eShop or a game card |
If you can’t decide between editions because you own a Windows PC, you don’t have to: you get both. The differences that matter (mods, cross-play, servers) are laid out in Java vs Bedrock: which edition to buy.
Pick your device
- Windows PC: buy once, then install Java, Bedrock or both through the launcher.
- Mac: Java only, runs natively on Apple Silicon.
- Android: the version most players in Bangladesh actually use.
- iPhone and iPad
- Chromebook: needs Play Store support, which school-managed devices often block.
- Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch
On a computer, the Minecraft Launcher guide covers installations, RAM settings and old versions. Before you buy for an older laptop, read the PC system requirements, because Mojang raised the Java Edition minimums in July 2026.
What it costs, and what’s free
The full game is a one-time purchase on every platform. Prices differ a lot between PC, mobile and console, so check how much Minecraft costs before you pick a device to play on. If you only want to try it, the official free trial and Minecraft Classic are covered in Is Minecraft free?.
Don’t download “free” copies
APK sites, “cracked launchers” and “unblocked” sites hand out pirated builds. They are often outdated, sometimes bundled with malware, and they can’t sign in to Realms, the Marketplace or most servers. If you lose access to a legitimate copy, the fix is recovering your account, not a cracked download: see Minecraft accounts and security.
Already installed and something’s wrong? Minecraft won’t launch covers the common crashes, and how to update Minecraft explains why your friend’s world or a server might reject an outdated copy.
Common questions
Where is the official Minecraft download?
On PC and Mac it is the Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net. On phones, consoles and Chromebooks it is the device's own store: Google Play, the App Store, the Microsoft Store, the PlayStation Store or the Nintendo eShop.
Do I get Java or Bedrock when I buy on PC?
Both. The PC purchase is Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, and the launcher installs either one from the same account.
Is there a free Minecraft download?
Not of the full game. Mojang offers free trials on some platforms and Minecraft Classic runs free in a browser. Sites offering the full game free are distributing pirated copies.
