Minecraft Accounts: Sign-In, Recovery and Security

Your Microsoft account is your Minecraft account. How sign-in works on Java and Bedrock, recovering a lost account, changing your name, avoiding scams.

By minecraft.bd Editorial Team·Updated

Every Minecraft purchase today belongs to a Microsoft account. Java Edition, Bedrock on every device, Realms, Minecoins and Marketplace items all sit on the account you signed in with when you bought them. The old Mojang account system is gone: migration to Microsoft closed on September 19, 2023.

That makes your Microsoft account worth protecting. If someone takes it, they take your Minecraft, your Xbox gamertag and anything you’ve bought.

What this section covers

The main guide is how to migrate or recover your Minecraft account. It explains what happened to old Mojang accounts, how to find which email owns your game, what to do if you’re locked out, and how username changes work on Java and Bedrock.

Five habits that keep an account safe

  1. Turn on two-step verification in your Microsoft account security settings. It stops almost every password-reuse attack.
  2. Use an email you’ll keep. A school or work email can disappear when you leave, and the game goes with it.
  3. Never give your password to anyone, including “helpers” on Discord or Facebook offering free Minecoins, capes or ranks. No legitimate giveaway needs it.
  4. Don’t buy accounts. Accounts sold online belong to someone else, who can recover them with one support request. In Bangladesh these listings are common in gaming groups; buying Minecraft with bKash explains the legitimate routes instead.
  5. Sign in only on official pages: minecraft.net, the Minecraft Launcher, your device’s store and login.live.com. Fake “cape claim” and “free Nitro” pages copy these to steal logins.

If you’ve already lost access, start with the recovery steps in the guide above rather than contacting sellers or “recovery services”, which can’t do anything Microsoft support can’t.
