Buy Minecraft: Prices, Editions and Gift Cards Explained
Minecraft is a one-time purchase, and your device decides the edition and price. What each platform costs, Java vs Bedrock, gift cards, and scams to avoid.
Minecraft is a one-time purchase, and the device you play on decides both the edition and the price. On a Windows PC you buy Java and Bedrock together; on phones, Chromebooks and consoles you buy Bedrock from that device’s store. Nothing else is required to play. Realms and Marketplace content are optional extras.
Most buying mistakes come from three things: paying for the wrong edition, buying on the wrong account, or trusting a “cheap account” seller. This section is built to stop all three.
Start with the right questions
How much will it cost me? How much Minecraft costs lists the official US prices per platform and explains why the number in your store may be different. We only quote prices we’ve checked, with the date.
Which edition? If your friends are on phones or consoles, you want Bedrock. If you want mods or Java servers like Hypixel, you want Java. On Windows you get both. The full comparison is in Java vs Bedrock.
I have a code or a gift card. Codes for the game, Minecoins and store credit all redeem in different places. How to redeem a Minecraft code sorts them out, and Minecraft gift cards explains what each card can actually buy.
I’m buying for someone else. The Minecraft gift guide starts with the one question that matters (which device do they play on?) and covers physical gifts too. Parents may also want Minecraft for parents.
Buying from Bangladesh
Most of our readers play on Android phones and don’t hold a card that works for international payments. Prices, payment methods and gift-card rules work differently there, and some of the advice passed around in Facebook groups doesn’t hold up. Read Minecraft price in Bangladesh and buying Minecraft with bKash before paying a reseller.
Two rules that save money
Buy the game, never an account. “Minecraft accounts for sale” are stolen or shared logins, and the original owner can take them back at any time. And check which Microsoft or store account you’re signed into before you pay, because a purchase can’t be moved to another account later.
Once you’ve bought it, the download guides show how to install it on each device. If you want to try first, Is Minecraft free? lists the official trials.
