How to Redeem a Minecraft Code or Gift Card (and Fix Errors)
Game codes and Minecoins go in at minecraft.net/redeem; store gift cards redeem in their own store. Step-by-step redeeming, errors and reseller codes.

Codes for the game itself and for Minecoins go in at minecraft.net/redeem: sign in with your Microsoft account, type the 25-character code and press Redeem. Gift cards for a store (Google Play, App Store, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo) are different. You redeem those in that store, and the balance is then spent there like money.
The step people get wrong is the account. Whatever you redeem belongs to the Microsoft account you’re signed into, permanently.
Which code goes where
| What’s on the card | Where to redeem it |
|---|---|
| Minecraft game code (Java & Bedrock for PC, or a Bedrock code) | minecraft.net/redeem |
| Minecoins | minecraft.net/redeem, or follow the instructions printed on the card |
| Marketplace content codes (skin packs, worlds) | minecraft.net/redeem |
| Microsoft or Xbox gift card | redeem.microsoft.com, or the Xbox console’s Store |
| Google Play gift card | play.google.com/redeem or Play Store > Payments & subscriptions |
| Apple gift card | App Store > your profile > Redeem Gift Card or Code |
| PlayStation or Nintendo card | That console’s store, under redeem codes |
A store gift card isn’t a Minecraft code. It adds balance, and then you buy Minecraft or Minecoins with that balance as usual. Minecraft gift cards explains which card buys what.
Redeeming a game code step by step
- Go to minecraft.net/redeem on a computer or phone browser.
- Sign in. If a parent bought it for a child, sign in with the child’s Microsoft account, not the parent’s.
- Enter the code without spaces and confirm.
- Install the game. The download guides cover each device.
Old Java-only gift codes sold before December 1, 2020 may not go through the website. Minecraft’s help center sends those to Player Care.
Common errors
“This code has already been redeemed.” The most common cause is that you redeemed it yourself on another account. Check every email you might have used. Our account recovery guide helps you work out which Microsoft account owns what.
“This code isn’t valid in your region.” Store gift cards are tied to a country. Google says its Play gift cards only work in the country and currency where they were sold, and the same applies to Apple, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo cards. You can’t fix this by retyping the code.
“Invalid code.” Look for mixed-up characters (O and 0, B and 8). If the code still fails, go back to the seller with your receipt.
Buying codes from resellers
If you buy a code from someone online, get it in writing that it is for your country’s store, and redeem it straight away while the seller can still help. A code far below the normal price is usually bought with a stolen card and can be revoked later, taking your purchase with it. Bangladeshi buyers should read buying Minecraft with bKash first.
Common questions
Can I move a redeemed game to another account?
No. Once a code is redeemed, the game or Minecoins belong to that Microsoft account for good. Check which account you're signed into before you press Redeem.
How long is a Minecraft code?
Game and Minecoin codes redeemed on minecraft.net are 25 characters. They're printed on the card or receipt, or sent in the gift email.
My code says it's already been redeemed. What now?
First check every Microsoft account you own, because it may have gone to another one. If it's on none of them, contact the shop you bought it from with your receipt.
