What Is the Latest Minecraft Version in 2026?

As of November 2, 2026, the latest Minecraft versions are:

• Java Edition 26.3, released September 15, 2026.
• Bedrock Edition 26.60, released October 27, 2026.

Both include the Wilderness Bound drop, the third game drop of 2026. Bedrock’s 26.60 is a smaller follow-up with fixes and experimental features for the next drop. We update this page when a new release comes out, but the game’s launcher and the news page on minecraft.net always have the very latest.

What Wilderness Bound added

Wilderness Bound (Java 26.3, Bedrock 26.50) arrived on September 15, 2026. The headline additions:

• The dappled forest, a new biome with poplar trees and poplar wood.
• Red shrubs and shelf mushrooms.
• The abandoned camp, a new structure.
• Wool and concrete stairs and slabs, plus straw beds and cushions for decorating.

What’s coming next

The fourth drop of 2026, for now called simply “Fourth Drop 2026,” is in testing. Java has it in snapshots and Bedrock has it as experimental features in 26.60 and the Preview. So far it includes ice caves with icicles and ice crystals, a new mob called the frostbite, ice balls, a Freezing effect, and new ice blocks like brittle ice and packed ice bricks. Mojang has said it’s planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Features in testing can still change before release.

The new version numbers, explained

For most of Minecraft’s life, versions were numbered 1.something: 1.8, 1.12, 1.21. The last of those was 1.21.11, the Mounts of Mayhem drop, in December 2025.

Starting with 2026, Java Edition uses year.drop.hotfix:

• 26.1 = 2026, first drop (Tiny Takeover, March 24, 2026)
• 26.1.1, 26.1.2 = quick bug-fix releases for that drop
• 26.2 = second drop (Chaos Cubed, June 16, 2026)
• 26.3 = third drop (Wilderness Bound, September 15, 2026)
• 26.4 = the fourth drop, still to come

Bedrock uses the same year prefix but counts its own way, in steps of ten: 26.10 was Tiny Takeover, 26.30 Chaos Cubed, and 26.50 Wilderness Bound. The releases in between (26.20, 26.40, 26.60) are smaller updates that usually carry fixes and experiments. Java and Bedrock numbers don’t match, but the drops land on the same day for both.

One change from Tiny Takeover that affects older guides: name tags are now craftable from one paper and one nugget (iron, gold or copper). Before that you had to find them in chests, fish them up, or buy them from a librarian villager. Our name tag guide covers it.
