Minecraft Live: When It Airs and What Mojang Announces

Minecraft Live is Mojang's free news show, aired each spring and fall since 2025. What gets announced, how to watch, and what became of MINECON.

By minecraft.bd Editorial Team·Updated

Minecraft Live is Mojang’s own news show, streamed free on Minecraft’s official channels. It’s where Mojang shows the next game drop, news about spin-offs and films, and behind-the-scenes looks at the team. Since 2025 there have been two regular shows a year, one in spring and one in fall, each about 20 to 30 minutes long.

The September 2026 show came a few days after the first snapshots of the fourth 2026 drop, the one with ice caves and the frostbite. Our latest version page tracks where that drop is now.

What gets shown

Each show usually covers:

  • The next game drop or two, with new mobs, blocks and biomes. Some of it is already in snapshots and previews by showtime, so you can play it the same day.
  • Spin-off and franchise news, like games, films and collaborations. Minecraft Dungeons II and the A Minecraft Movie sequel are recent examples; our spin-offs page covers both.
  • Changes to the game itself, like new features for Realms or the launcher.

The main show is followed by The Deep Dig, a longer after-show with developer interviews.

How to watch

Minecraft Live streams on Minecraft’s official YouTube channel and other official channels, and the recording stays up afterward. It’s free. Mojang posts the date and time on minecraft.net, usually a few weeks ahead. Some shows come with a free cosmetic for viewers, such as a cape or character item; see Minecraft capes for how those have worked.

MINECON and how the show changed

MINECON was the original in-person fan convention. The first official one was in Las Vegas in 2011, where version 1.0 launched, and later ones were held in Paris, Orlando, London and Anaheim. In 2017 and 2018 it became the online MINECON Earth, then MINECON Live in 2019. Since 2020 it has been Minecraft Live.

A few format changes since then:

  • 2023: the show got shorter and was pre-recorded, with a live-controlled stream.
  • 2024: fully pre-recorded, filmed at Mojang’s Stockholm office, and the mob vote was dropped.
  • 2025: switched to two shows a year, each themed around the latest drop.

The mob vote

From 2017 to 2023, viewers voted on one of three mobs to add to the game. It was fun at first, but every year two mobs lost and players argued about the ones left behind. Mojang retired the vote in 2024 and now simply announces new mobs. The last winner was the armadillo, added in 1.20.5.

Common questions

When is the next Minecraft Live?

Since 2025, Minecraft Live has aired twice a year, in spring (March) and fall (late September). The most recent show was on September 26, 2026, so the next regular show would be expected in spring 2027. Mojang announces the date on minecraft.net a few weeks before.

Is there still a mob vote?

No. The last mob vote was in 2023, when the armadillo won. Mojang retired community votes in 2024 and now announces new mobs directly.

Is MINECON coming back?

Not under that name. The last MINECON-branded event was MINECON Live in 2019, and the show has been called Minecraft Live since 2020. In May 2026 Mojang did run a live, in-person bonus show at TwitchCon Rotterdam.
