Minecraft Updates and Versions: Latest Release and History

As of November 2, 2026, the current Minecraft release is the Wilderness Bound drop: Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock Edition 26.50 (Bedrock has since had a smaller 26.60 update). The next drop, with ice caves and a new mob called the frostbite, is in snapshots and previews and is planned for later in 2026.

If those numbers look odd, you haven’t misread them. Mojang dropped the long-running “1.x” numbering after 1.21.11 in December 2025. Java versions are now named for the year and the drop: 26.1 is the first drop of 2026, 26.2 the second, and so on. Bedrock follows the same year prefix with its own numbers (26.10, 26.30, 26.50). How Minecraft updates now

Until 2023, Minecraft got one big themed update a year, usually in summer: Caves & Cliffs, The Wild Update, Trails & Tales. Since late 2024, Mojang has shipped smaller game drops several times a year instead, each with a theme: Bundles of Bravery, The Garden Awakens, Spring to Life, Chase the Skies, The Copper Age, Mounts of Mayhem, and in 2026 Tiny Takeover, Chaos Cubed and Wilderness Bound. Java and Bedrock get each drop on the same day.

Trying features early

New features show up first in Java snapshots and in Minecraft Preview on Bedrock, usually months before release. Snapshots and previews explains how to install them without risking your main worlds.

Going back
