How to Make Cookies in Minecraft: 8 From One Cocoa Bean
Two wheat with 1 cocoa bean between them make 8 cookies. How to make cookies in Minecraft, find and farm cocoa, and why you never feed one to a parrot.

Put wheat, cocoa beans and wheat in a horizontal row on a crafting table: 2 wheat with 1 cocoa bean in the middle gives 8 cookies. The row can be any of the three rows, but the cocoa has to sit between the two wheat. It doesn’t fit in the 2x2 inventory grid.
Where cocoa beans come from
Cocoa pods grow on the side of jungle tree trunks in jungle biomes. Ripe pods are orange-brown; break one and it drops 2 or 3 beans. Unripe green pods drop just 1, so wait if you can. Wandering traders sometimes sell cocoa beans, and they turn up in some chest loot, but the jungle is the only dependable source.
Once you have a few beans, farm them anywhere:
- Bring jungle logs home (or a sapling to grow your own tree).
- Use cocoa beans on the side of a jungle log to plant a pod.
- Wait for it to turn orange, then harvest and replant.
A wall of jungle logs covered in pods is a cheap, compact farm. It needs no water or light.
Wheat is the easy half. Any basic crop field will do; our farm starter guide covers it.
Are cookies worth eating?
Not really, as your main food. Each cookie gives 2 hunger and only 0.4 saturation, so you’re eating again almost immediately. Compare that with bread: 3 wheat for 5 hunger and much better saturation. For 2 wheat, a batch of cookies does give 16 hunger in total, so cookies stretch your wheat further, at the cost of constant snacking.
They shine in a few spots:
- Quick top-ups while building, since they eat fast.
- Buying them in bulk. A journeyman farmer sells 18 cookies for 3 emeralds, which is handy if you have emeralds and no jungle nearby.
- Cocoa beans pull double duty as brown dye, so a cocoa farm feeds your builds too.
For a placeable treat that feeds a whole group, cake is the other wheat-based option.
Keep cookies away from parrots
Cookies kill parrots. Use a cookie on a parrot and it gets poisoned and dies: instantly in Java, within a few seconds in Bedrock. It’s a nod to chocolate being toxic to real birds. Tame parrots with seeds (wheat, melon, pumpkin, beetroot, torchflower or pitcher pod seeds) instead.
