Jungle Biome in Minecraft: Temples, Parrots and Pandas

The jungle is the only natural home of parrots, ocelots, pandas and cocoa beans. Its three variants, jungle temple traps and loot, melons, and travel.

By minecraft.bd Editorial Team·Updated

The jungle is a hot, wet biome of huge jungle trees, vines and bamboo. It’s the only natural home of parrots, ocelots, pandas and cocoa beans, and it hides jungle temples under the canopy. It’s slow to travel through, but the rare stuff makes up for it.

Three jungle variants

  • Jungle. Dense trees, giant 2x2 jungle trees, melons on the ground.
  • Sparse jungle. Fewer trees, more grass. Easier to cross.
  • Bamboo jungle. Thick bamboo, and the best place to find pandas.

Mobs you only see here

  • Pandas spawn in jungles and especially bamboo jungles. Each has a personality gene (lazy, playful, aggressive, worried, brown and more). Feed them bamboo to breed them.
  • Parrots sit in the trees. Tame one with wheat, melon, pumpkin, beetroot or torchflower seeds and it rides on your shoulder. Never feed a parrot cookies. Our parrot taming guide has the details.
  • Ocelots are shy and run from you. Feed them raw cod or salmon while they stand still to gain trust. Village cats are a separate mob; ocelots can’t be tamed into cats anymore.

The jungle temple

A jungle pyramid (jungle temple) is a mossy cobblestone building swallowed by vines. Inside:

  1. Two tripwire traps in a corridor, each wired to a dispenser full of arrows. Break the string with shears from the side, or just walk around it. The tripwire setup is the same one you can build yourself with tripwire hooks.
  2. A three-lever puzzle that opens a hidden chest. You can solve it by trial, or just dig to the chest.
  3. Two chests, one behind the puzzle and one past the arrow trap.

Loot includes diamonds, gold, iron, emeralds, bones, enchanted books, saddles, horse armor and the Wild armor trim template. Collect the arrows from the dispensers too.

Food and farming

Jungles are one of the best early food spots without even counting animals. Melons generate on the ground, and cocoa pods grow on jungle logs. Plant cocoa on jungle wood for brown dye and cookies. Bamboo grows fast and smelts as fuel, and it’s the base for scaffolding.

Getting around

Leaves block everything. Climbing to the canopy and crossing on top of the trees is often faster than hacking a path on the ground. A shield helps against skeletons you can’t see until they’re close. Jungle trees also have the tallest trunks in the game, so a treehouse base is a classic idea.

Trail ruins can also generate in jungles, half-buried and full of suspicious gravel. See the biomes hub for more places to explore.

Common questions

Where do pandas spawn?

In jungles and bamboo jungles, and much more often in bamboo jungles. They need bamboo nearby to breed.

How do you get past jungle temple traps?

Break the tripwires with shears or by hand from the side, then empty the dispensers of arrows. Solve the three-lever puzzle or simply dig to the hidden chest.

Can you find cocoa beans outside the jungle?

Naturally, no. Cocoa pods grow only on jungle logs, and wandering traders sometimes sell them.
