Woodland Mansion in Minecraft: Find One, Get Totems
Woodland mansions are huge illager houses in dark forests, and every evoker inside drops a Totem of Undying. How to find one with a map, and what's inside.
A woodland mansion is an enormous dark oak house in a dark forest, filled with vindicators and evokers. It’s the best early source of Totems of Undying, because every evoker drops one. Mansions are rare and usually far from spawn, so most players find one with a woodland mansion map.
Finding a woodland mansion
Woodland mansions only generate in dark forest biomes (the dark oak variant of the forest), and they’re spaced very far apart. Walking around looking for one can take hours.
The reliable route is a cartographer villager. At a higher trade level, a cartographer sells a woodland mansion map that marks the nearest mansion. Follow the marker, and plan for a long trip: 5,000 to 10,000 blocks isn’t unusual. Bring beds, food and a boat. Our cartography table guide explains how to copy the map so you don’t lose it. Who lives there
- Vindicators with iron axes. They’re fast and hit hard, so fight them one at a time through a doorway.
- Evokers summon vexes and fang attacks from the ground. Each one drops a Totem of Undying. Kill the evoker fast, because vexes fly through walls.
- Allays trapped in jail cells, sometimes. Free them and they’ll collect items for you.
None of these respawn. Once the mansion is cleared, it stays cleared, though zombies and skeletons can still spawn in dark rooms.
What’s inside
The mansion is three floors of themed rooms: bedrooms, libraries, dining halls, storage rooms and a few odd ones, like a fake End portal room. Some rooms are built for decoration, and some hide secret spaces behind walls.
Chests hold enchanted books, diamond chestplates and hoes, iron gear, gold, leads, music discs, golden apples and the Vex armor trim template. The real loot is the totems and the dark oak and decorative blocks you can strip for building.
Raiding it
- Arrive in daylight with full iron or diamond armor, a shield and a bow.
- Clear room by room. Light each room as you go so normal mobs don’t add to the fight.
- Listen for the evoker “spell” sound and target evokers first.
- Use doors and corners to fight vindicators one at a time.
- Mark cleared rooms with torches on the door.
