Potion of Invisibility: Recipe and What Still Gives You Away
Add a fermented spider eye to Night Vision for a Potion of Invisibility: 3 or 8 minutes, no level II. Why armor and held items show, and when it pays.

A Potion of Invisibility makes your body invisible for 3 minutes, or 8 minutes with redstone. You brew it by adding a fermented spider eye to a Potion of Night Vision. There is no level II.
It sounds like the best potion in the game. In practice it’s a niche tool, because a lot still gives you away.
Potion of Invisibility recipe
- Water bottle + nether wart = Awkward Potion.
- Awkward Potion + golden carrot = Potion of Night Vision.
- Night Vision + fermented spider eye = Potion of Invisibility (3:00).
- Add redstone for 8:00. Gunpowder for splash, dragon’s breath for lingering.
You can also corrupt an extended Night Vision (8:00) straight into an extended Invisibility, which saves a step if you already have the long version sitting in a chest.
| Version | Duration |
|---|---|
| Base | 3:00 |
| Redstone | 8:00 |
| Lingering | 0:45 / 2:00 |
What stays visible
- Armor. Each piece floats in the air where you are. Hostile mobs also notice you from farther away for every armor piece you wear.
- Held items. A sword in your hand is a sword moving through the room by itself.
- Particles. Drinking the potion gives you swirling effect particles that other players can see.
So for real stealth you go naked and empty-handed. That’s a big ask in a dangerous place.
Where it pays off
Sneaking past mobs you can’t fight yet. Mobs need to be close before they target you, which lets you walk through a crowd at the edge of a woodland mansion or past a pillager outpost.
Multiplayer pranks and PvP ambushes. No armor, one good weapon pulled out at the last second.
It does not help much against the Warden. Wardens track you by vibration and smell rather than sight, so sneaking and wool matter far more in an ancient city than being invisible.
Don’t confuse this with Weakness, the other potion that uses a fermented spider eye: the spider eye always “flips” a potion into its opposite or darker version. Our brewing guide has the full list of those corruptions.
Common questions
How do you make a Potion of Invisibility?
Brew a Potion of Night Vision (Awkward Potion plus golden carrot), then add a fermented spider eye. Add redstone to raise it from 3 to 8 minutes.
Can mobs see you when you're invisible?
Mobs have to get much closer before they notice you, but every piece of armor you wear makes you easier to spot. Once a mob is already chasing you, it can keep attacking.
Does invisibility hide your armor?
No. Armor and whatever you hold stay visible, floating where your body would be. Take them off if you want to be fully hidden.
