Cherry Grove Biome in Minecraft: How to Find the Pink Trees
Cherry groves are pink mountain biomes added in 1.20. Where they generate, what spawns there, cherry wood and pink petals, and why they lack villages.
Cherry groves are mountain biomes full of pink-blossomed cherry trees and carpets of pink petals. They generate inland, usually on mountain slopes, plateaus or valleys ringed by peaks, and they were added in 1.20 (Trails & Tails). If you want one, head for the mountains.
How to find a cherry grove
Look for high ground. Cherry groves usually sit beside plains, forests, meadows and snowy peaks. From a distance, the pink canopy is unmistakable, so climbing any tall peak and looking around works better than wandering through valleys.
If you’re on a fresh world and want one fast, use a seed known to have a cherry grove near spawn. Our guide to finding and using seeds explains how. With cheats on, /locate biome minecraft:cherry_grove gives you exact coordinates.
What grows in a cherry grove
- Cherry trees. Their logs give cherry wood, a pale pink plank set with its own door, trapdoor, sign, boat and hanging sign. There’s no other source.
- Pink petals. A flower that you can stack up to four on one block. Bone meal on pink petals gives you more. Craft them into pink dye.
- Grass and tall grass, but not much else.
Bees live in nests on some cherry trees. That makes a cherry grove a good spot for a bee farm, with pink petals as a ready flower source.
Mobs
Pigs, sheep and rabbits spawn here as passive animals. At night you get the standard hostile crowd: zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders and endermen. Nothing is exclusive to the biome.
No villages
Villages never generate in cherry groves. Pillager outposts can, though, so a stone tower on a pink hill is a bad sign. Clear it before you build nearby, or raids will follow you home.
Below the surface
Cherry groves often sit over dripstone caves, and because they’re mountain biomes, the deep dark can generate far below. Emeralds are more common at higher altitudes in mountains, so mining into a cherry grove hillside can turn up emerald ore.
Is it a good base?
For looks, it’s one of the best biomes in the game. The wood palette is unique, the terrain is dramatic, and the soft pink ambience suits cottage and Japanese-inspired builds. Check building ideas for beginners for starter house shapes that fit.
The practical downsides: steep terrain is harder to build on, there are no villagers to trade with, and flat farmland means terraforming. A lot of players solve that by building a small base in the grove and a farm in nearby plains.

Common questions
Where do cherry groves spawn?
Inland, usually high up on mountain slopes, plateaus or valleys between peaks. They often border plains, forests and snowy mountain biomes.
Can villages spawn in a cherry grove?
No. Villages never generate in cherry groves, although pillager outposts can.
How do you get cherry saplings?
Break cherry leaves. They drop saplings like any other leaves, and you can plant them anywhere with enough room and light.
