What Is 2b2t? The Oldest Anarchy Server in Minecraft
2b2t is Minecraft's oldest anarchy server: no rules, no bans, and the same map since December 2010. How the queue works, what spawn is like, who it suits.
2b2t (“2builders2tools”) is the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft: no rules, no bans for griefing or hacking, and the same world since December 2010. It has never been reset, so the map is a fifteen-year pile of ruined bases, tunnels, monuments and craters left by players who are long gone. People join for the history and the challenge, not for a comfortable game.
What “anarchy” means here
On 2b2t, anything the game allows is allowed. Players grief, steal, kill new arrivals, use hacked clients and fill chat with whatever they like. There are no admins handing out land claims or restoring destroyed builds. The server does run hard difficulty with PvP on, and there’s no kit or starter gear.
Spawn is the result. For thousands of blocks around 0, 0 the land is a crater field of lava, cobblestone and broken obsidian, picked clean of trees and food. Your first job is to walk (or tunnel through the Nether) far enough out to find untouched land, usually without dying to another player or starvation. Many new players die repeatedly before they make it.
The queue
The server is popular enough that joining puts you in a queue, which can hold over a thousand players at busy times and take hours. A paid priority queue (around $20 a month, per its Wikipedia entry) lets you skip ahead. Plenty of players just leave the game in the queue while doing something else.
Version and editions
For years 2b2t stayed on Minecraft 1.12.2, then moved to 1.19 in 2023 and later to the 1.21 family. In December 2025 it opened to Bedrock Edition players, so people on phones and consoles can join the same world. Address: 2b2t.org. Our guide to joining a Minecraft server covers adding it on each edition.
Why it’s famous
The world is enormous on disk. Its archive is measured in tens of terabytes, a scale you only get by letting players explore for fifteen years (see how big a Minecraft world can get). Player groups have built bases that lasted years before being found, held long rivalries and organized huge projects, and YouTube documentaries turned those stories into internet legend.
Is it for you?
If you like the idea of surviving with nothing in a hostile world shaped by other players, 2b2t is unique. If you want to build in peace, it’s the opposite of what you want: look for a well-run SMP instead, or a minigame network like Hypixel. Never build anything you care about within a few hundred thousand blocks of spawn, and never share your base coordinates.
Common questions
Is 2b2t safe for kids?
No. There's no chat moderation, hacked clients are allowed and players can kill or rob you at any time. It's an adult community and parents should treat it that way.
What does 2b2t stand for?
2builders2tools, a joke name from the server's early days.
Can Bedrock players join 2b2t?
Yes, since December 2025 the server has allowed Bedrock Edition players to join alongside Java players. It's still a Java server at heart, so expect some differences on the Bedrock side.
