Potion of Leaping: Recipe and How High You Can Jump
Add a rabbit's foot to an Awkward Potion for a Potion of Leaping. Jump about 1.8 blocks at level I or 2.5 at level II and take less fall damage.
A Potion of Leaping gives you Jump Boost: you jump about 1.8 blocks high at level I and 2.5 blocks at level II, and you take less fall damage. Brew it by adding a rabbit’s foot to an Awkward Potion.
| Version | Duration | Jump height |
|---|---|---|
| Leaping I | 3:00 | ~1.8 blocks |
| Leaping I + redstone | 8:00 | ~1.8 blocks |
| Leaping II (glowstone) | 1:30 | 2.5 blocks |
Getting the rabbit’s foot
The rabbit is the only source. Rabbits live in deserts, flower forests, taigas, snowy areas and meadows, and they drop a rabbit’s foot only sometimes, so expect to kill a few. A sword with Looting raises the odds. Breeding them with carrots or dandelions near your base gives you a steady supply.
Then brew it at a brewing stand: nether wart into water bottles, then the rabbit’s foot. Glowstone for level II, or redstone for a longer timer. You can’t have both.
Level I is weirdly awkward
Leaping I raises your jump to about 1.8 blocks. That’s enough to feel floaty but not enough to clear a 2-block wall, which is what most people want. Level II gets you to 2.5 blocks, so it clears fences, two-block walls and most hedges. If you’re brewing for movement, brew level II.
Fall damage
Each level of Jump Boost cancels one block of fall height. That doesn’t sound like much, but it means Leaping II effectively lets you fall 2 more blocks without taking damage. For real drops, a Potion of Slow Falling is far better.
Uses
- Crossing mountains and jagged peaks without building stairs. Paired with Swiftness, it’s the fastest way to cross rough terrain on foot.
- Parkour maps that allow potions.
- Escaping pits and ravines without placing blocks.
- Hopping onto a mob-proof roof or a 2-block ledge while being chased.
One trap: Jump Boost makes sprint-jumping across flat ground harder to control, and you’ll hit your head on low ceilings a lot. Drink it outside, not in a mineshaft.
A fermented spider eye turns Leaping I into a Potion of Slowness. See the brewing guide for that and every other corruption.
Common questions
What do you need for a Potion of Leaping?
A rabbit's foot added to an Awkward Potion. Rabbits drop the foot occasionally when killed, and Looting improves the chance.
How high can you jump with Leaping II?
Two and a half blocks. Leaping I raises your jump to about 1.8 blocks, which is not quite enough to clear a two-block wall.
What happens if you add a fermented spider eye to Leaping?
It turns into a Potion of Slowness. Leaping II cannot be corrupted this way.
