Play Minecraft Free: The Official, Legal Options

The full game isn't free, but parts of it legally are: official time-limited trials, Minecraft Classic in a web browser, and Minecraft Education at school.

By minecraft.bd Editorial Team·Updated

The full version of Minecraft isn’t free, but you can play part of it legally without paying. Mojang offers time-limited trials, the original 2009 creative mode runs free in a web browser, and many schools give students Minecraft Education. Everything in this section is official. Nothing here asks you to download a “free APK” or a cracked launcher.

▶ Play Minecraft Classic free in your browser

Where to go

  • Is Minecraft free? is the complete answer: every free option, which devices have a trial, how long it lasts and how to start each one.
  • Minecraft Classic in the browser is for the no-install option. It runs on a computer with a keyboard and takes seconds to start.
  • Minecraft Education is for students and teachers whose school has licenses.
  • The demo and the trial explains exactly what the Java demo and the Bedrock trial include, and what happens when the timer runs out.

Pick by what you want to find out

“Will my kid like it?” Use a trial. The Bedrock trial on Windows, Android or PlayStation gives about 90 minutes of real survival, and the Java demo gives five in-game days (about 100 minutes). That’s long enough to build a shelter, survive a night and decide.

“Will it run on my computer?” Use the Java demo. It’s the real Java Edition, so if it plays smoothly, the full game will too. On an old laptop, that’s worth knowing before you spend money.

“I just want to build something now.” Use Minecraft Classic. There’s nothing to install and no account to make, and up to nine friends can join through a link. It’s creative only, with a short block list and no mobs, so it won’t tell you much about the modern game.

“My school uses it.” Sign in to Minecraft Education with your school account, not a personal one. It’s a separate edition built for lessons, with its own lesson worlds and classroom tools, and your teacher or IT department controls access.

What the trials leave out

None of the trials let you join servers or Realms, shop in the Marketplace, or keep playing your world after the timer ends. Classic has no timer, but it’s the 2009 game. Once a trial runs out, the next step is buying.

When you’re ready to buy

How much Minecraft costs compares platforms, and Java vs Bedrock helps you pick an edition. On PC, one purchase gets you both. The download guides show how to install the full game on each device. Players in Bangladesh should also read Minecraft in Bangladesh for local pricing and payment.

Why we don’t list “unblocked” sites

Sites promising the full game free, or “Minecraft unblocked” for school computers, are either pirated copies or clones. They can’t sign in to Realms, the Marketplace or official servers, and some carry malware or harvest logins. The free options above give you the real game without those risks.
