A zoglin is what a hoglin becomes after 15 seconds outside the Nether. It keeps the hoglin’s 40 health and tusk attack, loses any interest in food or breeding, and attacks almost every mob it can reach, not only players. Zoglins never spawn naturally; if you see one, someone brought a hoglin through a portal.

How a hoglin turns
A hoglin that ends up in the Overworld or the End, whether through a portal, a boat or a lead, shakes for 15 seconds and turns into a zoglin. Babies become baby zoglins, which never grow up. There’s no way to stop the conversion in survival, so if you want hoglins for food, farm them in the Nether.
One odd detail: a hoglin you fed crimson fungus before it converted becomes a zoglin that won’t despawn.
What it attacks
Pretty much everything. Players in survival or adventure, villagers, animals, other hostile mobs, hoglins, and even zombified piglins. The exceptions are creepers, ghasts and other zoglins. Piglins back away from zoglins unless they’re already in a fight; piglin brutes stand their ground.
That means a zoglin loose near a village is a disaster. It’ll kill villagers and the iron golem will have its hands full.
Fighting one
Treat it like a hoglin that can’t be scared off. Each adult hit throws you upward on Java, which turns a fight near a cliff or lava into a fall-damage problem. Fight on flat ground, keep your back away from edges, and strike when it lunges.
Because it’s undead, everything flips compared with a hoglin:
- Smite does extra damage.
- Instant Health hurts it; Instant Damage heals it.
- Poison and Regeneration don’t affect it.
- Warped fungus, nether portals and respawn anchors, which scare hoglins, do nothing.
It can’t swim, but it doesn’t drown either, so it just walks along the bottom of water.
Drops
1-3 rotten flesh (more with Looting) and 5 XP. A hoglin drops porkchops and leather, so letting one convert is a straight downgrade unless you specifically want a monster for a build or a trap.
Edition differences
- On Java, adult zoglins attack every two seconds and fling targets into the air. On Bedrock they attack every second.
- Java zoglins can be leashed.
- Adult zoglins can’t ride boats on Bedrock.
Every Nether mob, converted or not, is on the mobs hub.
