Breeze in Minecraft: How to Beat It and Get Breeze Rods

The breeze lives in trial chambers, fires wind charges and reflects arrows, so bring a sword, axe or mace. How to kill one, and why breeze rods matter.

Breeze stats in Minecraft: health 30 (15 hearts); wind charge 1 damage (1.5 on Hard), plus knockback; behavior Hostile; spawns Trial spawners in trial chamber combat rooms; drops 1-2 breeze rods (player kill); 10 XP.

The breeze is a hostile wind mob found only in trial chambers. It hops long distances, fires wind charges that knock you around, and bounces arrows straight back at you, so the reliable way to kill one is with a sword, axe or mace. Each kill drops one or two breeze rods.

Where to find a breeze

Every trial chamber combat room can hold one breeze spawner, usually in the middle of the room. You can spot it by the chiseled tuff around it. Breezes only appear where they have line of sight to that spawner, and the spawner stops after its wave is cleared and goes on cooldown. An ominous trial spawner, triggered by Bad Omen, gives tougher waves and better rewards.

What makes it annoying

A breeze jumps up to 15 blocks sideways and 5 blocks up, takes no fall damage, and fires a wind charge roughly every 1.6 seconds (1.5 in Bedrock) at anything within 16 blocks. The wind charge itself does almost no damage. The danger is the burst: it throws you into the air, and the fall is what hurts. It can also flip levers, open doors and press buttons, which in a trial chamber can set off dispensers.

It deflects arrows, tridents and other projectiles at full speed, so the shot you fire can hit you or another player on the way back.

How to kill it

  • Get close and use melee. A breeze has only 30 health, so a decent sword ends it in four or five hits.
  • Fight on flat ground away from ledges. The knockback only matters if there’s somewhere to fall.
  • Feather Falling boots take the sting out of the wind bursts.
  • Splash potions still work. The breeze can’t deflect a potion’s area effect, so a splash of Harming or Weakness lands.
  • Iron golems help. Breezes go out of their way to attack them, which buys you free hits.

Breeze rods

Breeze rods are the reason most players farm trial chambers:

  • One rod crafts four wind charges, which you can throw for a rocket-jump or to knock enemies back.
  • A rod plus a heavy core (from ominous vaults) makes the mace. Its enchantments, including Density, Breach and Wind Burst, are only available for the mace.
  • A rod is also the material for duplicating the flow armor trim smithing template.

Since breezes only come from spawners, rods are renewable only as long as you keep running chambers. Each trial spawner resets after its cooldown, so one well-lit chamber near your base keeps paying out.

Common questions

Can you shoot a breeze with a bow?

Not usefully. A breeze deflects every projectile except wind charges, and the arrow keeps its speed, so it can come back and hit you. Use a melee weapon.

What are breeze rods used for?

Crafting wind charges (four per rod), making a mace together with a heavy core, and copying the flow armor trim smithing template.

Where do breezes spawn?

Only from trial spawners ringed with chiseled tuff in trial chamber combat rooms. They never spawn naturally anywhere else.
