Density Enchantment: Mace Damage Per Block Fallen
Density adds 0.5 smash damage per block fallen for each level, so Density V adds 2.5 per block. How it stacks, getting it, and Density vs Breach.
Density makes a mace’s smash attack hit harder the farther you fall. Each level adds 0.5 damage for every block fallen, so Density V adds 2.5 damage per block. It only goes on the mace and has five levels.
| Level | Extra damage per block fallen | Extra from a 10-block fall |
|---|---|---|
| I | +0.5 | +5 |
| II | +1 | +10 |
| III | +1.5 | +15 |
| IV | +2 | +20 |
| V | +2.5 | +25 |
That bonus sits on top of the mace’s own smash damage, which already grows with fall distance. A Density V smash from a decent height kills almost anything that isn’t a boss, and a big drop can one-shot players in good armor.
Getting Density
Density is not a treasure enchantment. You can get it from:
- the enchanting table, by enchanting a mace or a book;
- ominous vaults in trial chambers, and other chests that hold enchanted books;
- fishing;
- librarians in the default trading system. The experimental Villager Trade Rebalance removes all mace enchantments from librarians.
The mace itself is crafted from a heavy core (ominous vault loot) and a breeze rod, so you’ll be in trial chambers anyway.
What it conflicts with
Density can’t share a mace with Breach, Smite or Bane of Arthropods. It works fine with Wind Burst, Fire Aspect, Unbreaking and Mending.
Density, Breach or Smite?
- Density if you set up proper falls: wind charges, a pillar, or Wind Burst to chain hits. Best general-purpose pick.
- Breach for PvP against heavily armored players.
- Smite if you mostly fight undead and use the mace for normal ground hits more than smashes.
The usual survival build is Density V, Wind Burst III, Unbreaking III and Mending. Wind Burst bounces you back up after each smash, and Density makes each landing count. Wear Feather Falling boots, because a missed smash still means a real fall.
Common questions
Is Density or Breach better?
For single-player and mob fights, Density: it scales with fall height and most mobs have little or no armor. Breach is the PvP pick, where opponents wear Protection IV netherite.
Can you get Density from an enchanting table?
Yes. Put a mace in the enchanting table and Density can roll at any level up to V. It also comes on books from ominous vaults, fishing and librarians.
