How to Make Super TNT in Minecraft: It's Not in Vanilla
Vanilla Minecraft has no Super TNT; it comes from mods and plugins. How to make super TNT-style blasts with TNT clusters, end crystals and commands.
Vanilla Minecraft has no Super TNT. There’s no recipe, no item and no block by that name in Java or Bedrock 1.21. The only craftable explosive block is regular TNT. If you saw Super TNT in a video, it came from a mod, an add-on or a server plugin.
What you can do is make explosions much bigger than one block of TNT. Here’s how, from easiest to most extreme.
Where “Super TNT” comes from
Mods such as the long-running TNT packs on Java add blocks with names like Super TNT, Nuke or Mega TNT, each a scaled-up explosion. Bedrock add-ons from the Marketplace do the same. If you want those exact blocks, you need the mod for your edition; our guide to installing mods safely covers Java. Check the add-on page for anything on Bedrock, and only download from sources you trust.
Bigger blasts in plain survival
Use more TNT. TNT caught in another explosion lights with a short random fuse of 0.5 to 1.5 seconds, so a cluster chain-reacts. Spread them out a little for a wider crater; stack them tight for a deeper one. Water stops TNT from damaging blocks, so dry ground works best.
Use a stronger explosive. Explosion power is what sets the size. For comparison:
| Source | Explosion power |
|---|---|
| Creeper | 3 |
| TNT, TNT minecart (at rest) | 4 |
| Bed or respawn anchor used in the wrong dimension | 5 |
| End crystal | 6 |
| Charged creeper | 6 |
| Wither spawning | 7 |
End crystals are the biggest explosion you can carry and place yourself. They need obsidian or bedrock underneath. A charged creeper is the same power, but you need lightning.
Use redstone to fire it all at once. Wiring a TNT field to one button with redstone gives you a single giant boom instead of a rolling chain. That’s how TNT “nukes” in survival worlds are built.
Custom-power TNT with commands
In Java 1.21.2 and later, with cheats on, you can set the power of a single primed TNT using the summon command:
/summon tnt ~ ~ ~ {fuse:80,explosion_power:16}
Power 4 is normal. Anything above 10 or so craters a large area and can freeze a slower computer for a few seconds, so test in a copy of your world. Bedrock doesn’t have this field; there you’d use an add-on instead.
For everyday explosives, the crafting and safety basics are on the TNT page linked above, and more guides are on the guides hub.
Common questions
Is Super TNT a real Minecraft item?
Not in vanilla Java or Bedrock. It comes from mods, add-ons and some server plugins. Regular TNT is the only craftable explosive block.
What is the strongest explosion you can make in survival?
A single end crystal (power 6) or charged creeper (power 6) beats TNT (power 4). For raw damage to terrain, many TNT blocks set off together are bigger still.
Can I make one TNT block explode bigger with commands?
In Java 1.21.2 and later you can summon primed TNT with a custom explosion_power value from 0 to 128 using the /summon command.
