How to Make Pumpkin Pie in Minecraft: 3 Ingredients

Put 1 pumpkin, 1 sugar and 1 egg anywhere in a crafting grid. The recipe is shapeless, so the order doesn’t matter, and it fits in your inventory’s 2x2 grid; no crafting table needed. You get one pumpkin pie.

Finding the ingredients

Pumpkin. Pumpkins grow wild in small patches in grassy biomes like plains, forests and taigas, and in the farm plots of some villages. Once you have one, put it in the crafting grid alone to get 4 pumpkin seeds, then plant them on farmland. A pumpkin stem needs an empty dirt, grass or farmland block next to it to grow the fruit. Our farming guide has a good layout. Use a plain pumpkin; a carved pumpkin won’t work.

Sugar. Craft it from sugar cane, one cane for one sugar. Sugar cane grows on sand or dirt next to water.

Egg. Chickens lay one about every 5 to 10 minutes. A few chickens in a pen give you a steady supply; a chicken farm with hoppers collects them for you.

Is it good food?

Pumpkin pie restores 8 hunger and 4.8 saturation. Here’s how that stacks up against foods you’ll have at the same stage:

It fills the hunger bar fast but saturation runs out sooner, so you’ll be hungry again earlier than with steak. Where it shines is that it needs no furnace or fuel, and all three ingredients come from farms. Bread is easier to mass-produce; pie fills more per bite.

A tip for egg-heavy bases

If you’re already running chickens and sugar cane for a cake, pumpkin pie uses the same eggs and sugar with far less effort. A cake gives more food in total (7 slices) but has to be placed and eaten in one spot, while pies stack to 64 and go in your pocket.

Farmer villagers can also sell pumpkin pie once they level up. That’s not a food plan on its own, but it’s handy if your trading hall is already running.
