Minecraft Education Download: Devices, Licenses and Price
The Minecraft Education app is free to install on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPad, iPhone and Android. Who can get a license, its cost and signing in.
Download Minecraft Education from the official site, education.minecraft.net, which links to the right store for your device: Windows, macOS, Chromebook, iPad, iPhone and Android are all supported. The app itself is free to install. To play, you sign in with a Microsoft 365 school or work account that has a Minecraft Education license assigned to it.
Download by device
| Device | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Windows | The download on education.minecraft.net, or the Microsoft Store |
| Mac | The download on education.minecraft.net |
| Chromebook | Google Play on the Chromebook |
| iPad and iPhone | The App Store |
| Android | Google Play |
On school-managed devices, your IT team may install it for you, and installing it yourself may be blocked. That’s normal.
Make sure you get Minecraft Education, not the regular Minecraft app. The regular game won’t accept a school account, and Minecraft Education won’t accept a personal one. For the regular game, see our download hub.
Who can get a license
Schools. Accredited schools buy academic licenses, either through Microsoft licensing programs or directly. Some Microsoft 365 Education plans already include Minecraft Education. The school’s IT admin assigns licenses to teachers and students in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Families, homeschools, camps and clubs. Minecraft Education is available to buy for non-school use through a commercial license. The buyer creates a Microsoft 365 admin account, purchases licenses, and assigns them to the users who will play. Our homeschool guide walks through whether that’s worth it.
Anyone with a school account but no license can usually try the free trial and some demo lessons.
What it costs
Prices as listed by Minecraft Education and the Minecraft Wiki, checked November 2026 (US dollars):
- Academic license for eligible schools: about $5.04 per user per year, with volume options for large deployments.
- Commercial license for families, camps and organizations: $36 per user per year.
Prices vary by country and change over time, so check education.minecraft.net/licensing for the current figure where you live. We haven’t been able to confirm local pricing for Bangladesh.
What a license gets you
- The full game, updated alongside the regular Bedrock release.
- The lesson library and world templates.
- Code Builder with MakeCode and Python.
- Multiplayer with other users in the same organization.
- Teacher tools for running a class.
It doesn’t include Marketplace content or access to regular servers and Realms. To customize worlds, Minecraft Education supports Bedrock add-ons; see mods and add-ons in Minecraft Education.
Installed but can’t get in?
Nearly every “it won’t work” after installing is an account problem: the wrong type of account, or no license assigned. Minecraft Education login has the fixes. If you’re still deciding whether it’s right for your class, what Minecraft Education is covers the features.
