Minecraft /time and /weather Commands: Day, Clear, Freeze
/time set day makes it morning and /weather clear stops rain on Java and Bedrock. Tick values, durations, freezing the cycle with gamerules, and mistakes.
/time set day makes it morning and /weather clear stops rain. Both work on Java and Bedrock with cheats on. You can also set exact tick values, add time, check the current time, or freeze the cycle completely with a gamerule.
/time
/time set <day|noon|night|midnight|value>
/time add <value>
/time query <daytime|gametime|day> (Bedrock; Java 26.1+: time|gametime)
A Minecraft day is 24,000 ticks (20 minutes). The named values:
| Name | Ticks | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|
day |
1000 | Early morning |
noon |
6000 | Sun overhead |
sunset (Bedrock) |
12000 | Sun going down |
night |
13000 | Dark, mobs start spawning |
midnight |
18000 | Moon overhead |
sunrise (Bedrock) |
23000 | Dawn |
Examples:
/time set day
/time set 6000
/time add 12000
/time query daytime
Java 26.1 rebuilt /time around world clocks. set, add and the named times work as before, but /time query daytime and /time query day are Bedrock-only now: on Java use /time query time (total ticks on the clock) or /time query gametime. Java also gained /time pause and /time resume to freeze and restart the day without a gamerule, and /time rate <multiplier> to make days pass faster or slower (1 is normal) without speeding up anything else.
On Java, durations take units: /time add 1d adds a full day, /time add 30s adds 30 seconds (t for ticks is the default). Skipping a full day also moves the moon phase, which changes slime spawning in swamps.
/weather
Java Edition
/weather <clear|rain|thunder> [<duration>]
Bedrock Edition
/weather <clear|rain|thunder> [duration]
/weather query
Examples:
/weather clear
/weather rain 1d
/weather thunder 6000
On Java the duration can use d, s or t units; plain numbers are ticks. Bedrock takes ticks. Leave it out and the game picks a random length. Bedrock also has /toggledownfall, which flips rain on or off.
Freezing time or weather
| What | Java 1.21.11+ | Older Java / Bedrock |
|---|---|---|
| Stop day/night cycle | /gamerule advance_time false |
/gamerule doDaylightCycle false |
| Stop weather changes | /gamerule advance_weather false |
/gamerule doWeatherCycle false |
Java renamed many gamerules to snake_case in 1.21.11, so old tutorials will give you the old names. Bedrock also has /alwaysday (or /daylock), which locks the time at day.
Common mistakes
/time set daydoesn’t skip the night for phantoms. Phantoms track time since you last slept, not the clock. Sleep in a bed.- Old gamerule names on new Java.
doDaylightCyclefails on 1.21.11+. - Using seconds on Bedrock. Bedrock’s
/weatherduration is in ticks, so600is just 30 seconds. - Expecting
/time set nightto spawn mobs instantly. It changes the light; mobs still spawn gradually.
Want night without commands? See how to make it nighttime, or craft a clock to read the time. For enabling cheats, see the cheat codes guide, and for everything else the commands hub.
Common questions
What is the command to make it day in Minecraft?
/time set day. It sets the time to 1000 ticks, shortly after sunrise. /time set noon goes to 6000, the middle of the day.
How do you stop the day-night cycle?
Turn off the gamerule. Java 1.21.11 and later: /gamerule advance_time false. Older Java and Bedrock: /gamerule doDaylightCycle false. Bedrock also has /alwaysday.
How long does /weather clear last?
As long as you set. Java takes a duration with units like 1d or 600s; Bedrock takes ticks. Without a duration, the game picks a random length.
