Add a ghast tear to an Awkward Potion for Regeneration: 1 health every 2.5 seconds at level I, twice as fast at II. Durations, and when it beats Healing.
A Potion of Regeneration restores health over time: 1 health point every 2.5 seconds at level I, and twice that rate at level II. You brew it by adding a ghast tear to an Awkward Potion. It lasts 45 seconds at base, longer with redstone.

Both the base potion and level II add up to roughly 18 health points (9 hearts) if you drink them at low health. The extended version heals more in total, and on Bedrock it heals the most, because of the extra 30 seconds.
The ghast tear problem
The ingredient is the hard part. Ghasts float over open Nether areas like soul sand valleys and Nether wastes, and when they die over lava, the tear usually burns. Fight them over solid ground, or reflect their fireballs back with a punch or an arrow, and kill them near the edge of a cliff so the tear lands on a ledge you can reach.
A bow with Power and a little patience works best. Each ghast drops 0-1 tears, with Looting adding more.
Brewing
Nether wart into water bottles at a brewing stand, then the ghast tear. Then choose one: redstone for a long potion, or glowstone for level II. For a big fight, level II is better; it front-loads the healing into the part of the fight where you need it.
When to use it over Healing
Healing is instant. Regeneration is a slow, steady stream. Use Regeneration:
- At the start of a long fight, like the Wither or a raid wave, so you’re healing the whole time you’re taking hits.
- Alongside a golden apple, which gives Regeneration II for 5 seconds on its own. A potion stacked on top doesn’t double the rate, so drink it once the apple wears off.
- When you can’t stop to eat. Regeneration doesn’t need food, but your natural healing does, and a full hunger bar heals quickly by itself on Java.
Withering and poison both fight Regeneration. Against the Wither, you’ll need the potion just to break even.
