Ravager in Minecraft: Raid Beast Stats and How to Beat It
Ravagers have 100 health, bite for 12 on Normal and always drop a saddle. Which raid waves bring a ravager, stunning one with a shield, and trampling.

The ravager is the heavy hitter of a village raid: 100 health, a 12-damage bite on Normal (18 on Hard), and a roar that throws everything around it backwards. It only shows up in raids, and it always drops a saddle.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Health | 100 HP (50 hearts) |
| Bite | 7 / 12 / 18 HP (Easy / Normal / Hard) |
| Roar | 4 / 6 / 9 HP plus knockback |
| Knockback resistance | 70% Java, 75% Bedrock |
| Drops | 1 saddle |
| XP | 20 |
When ravagers show up
Ravagers are raid-only. You’ll meet the first one in wave 3 on every difficulty. After that it depends on difficulty and edition:
- Java Normal: a pillager-ridden ravager in wave 5, and one or two more in the bonus wave.
- Java Hard: wave 5 with a pillager rider, then wave 7 brings ravagers carrying a vindicator and an evoker.
- Bedrock Hard: wave 5 with a pillager rider, wave 7 with pillager and evoker riders.
On Java a ravager can also wander along with a pillager patrol, but it never spawns in the wild.
Fighting a ravager
The bite is the danger. On Hard, 18 damage takes a big bite out of your health even through iron armor, so don’t trade hits. The counter is a shield:
- Raise the shield as it lunges. The bite deals no damage.
- There’s a 50% chance the ravager gets stunned for about two seconds. Hit it hard while it’s dazed.
- When the stun ends it roars, dealing damage and knocking back everything nearby. Back off or hold the shield again.
The shield takes heavy durability damage doing this, so bring a spare or one with Unbreaking. If there’s a rider, kill the rider first; an evoker on top of a ravager is the worst combination in the game, because you’re dodging fangs and bites at once.
Ranged attacks work well too. Ravagers are big and charge in straight lines, so a bow with Power, or a crossbow with Piercing, lands nearly every shot.
Trampling the village
With mob griefing on, ravagers smash through leaves and trample crops as they charge. Java ravagers break wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot and the newer ancient crops; Bedrock ones leave the ancient crops alone but flatten saplings, mushrooms, snow and turtle eggs. Expect some landscaping work after a raid.
The saddle
Every ravager drops one saddle, and Looting doesn’t change that. That makes a raid farm a steady saddle farm on both editions, though for a single saddle it’s usually quicker to use one of the other ways to get a saddle.
Edition differences
- Bedrock’s ravager bite is delayed and can miss a player who moves away.
- Java raids have extra bonus waves; Bedrock raids don’t.
- On Bedrock, the saddle only drops when a player lands the kill.
Every raid mob is listed on the mobs hub.
Common questions
Do ravagers spawn naturally?
No. They only appear in raids (and, on Java, can join a pillager patrol). There's no biome where they spawn on their own.
What does a ravager drop?
A saddle every time, plus 20 XP. On Bedrock the saddle only drops if a player gets the kill.
Can you ride a ravager?
Not in survival. Illagers ride them in raids, but players can't saddle or control one.
