Fire Aspect Enchantment: Burn Damage and Cooked Drops
Fire Aspect sets targets on fire for 4 seconds per level, adding about 3 or 7 damage, and makes animals drop cooked meat. Immune mobs and sources.
Fire Aspect sets whatever you hit on fire. Each level adds 4 seconds of burning, so Fire Aspect II sets targets alight for 8 seconds. In practice that adds about 3 damage at level I and 7 at level II, on top of the hit itself. It goes on swords, spears and maces and has two levels.

The good parts
- Cooked food. Cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and rabbits drop cooked meat when they die burning. A Fire Aspect sword at a cow farm skips the furnace entirely.
- Damage over time. The burn keeps ticking while you back off or switch targets.
- Bedrock lighting. On Bedrock you can right-click candles, campfires and TNT with the weapon to light them.
The catches
- Fire-immune mobs. Blazes, ghasts, magma cubes, striders, wither skeletons, zombified piglins and most other Nether mobs ignore it, as do the Ender Dragon, the Wither and the Warden. Piglins, piglin brutes and hoglins do burn.
- Looting. If the fire finishes a mob off, Looting doesn’t apply to its drops. Hit again before it dies if you want the extra loot.
- Burning zombies. A zombie or husk that’s on fire sets you on fire when it hits you.
- Your own animals. One accidental swing at a pet wolf or a horse sets it burning. Switch to another item before you interact with them.
Getting it
Fire Aspect rolls on the enchanting table for swords and spears. On Java the mace needs a book; on Bedrock the table can put it on a mace directly. Books come from fishing, chests and librarians. With the experimental Villager Trade Rebalance, taiga librarians sell it.

Common questions
How much damage does Fire Aspect do?
Fire Aspect I burns for 4 seconds and II for 8 seconds. Because the first half-second is usually lost to hit immunity, that works out to about 3 and 7 extra damage.
Does Fire Aspect cook food?
Yes. Animals that drop raw meat drop it cooked if they die while burning or are killed by the Fire Aspect weapon.
Can Fire Aspect light things on Bedrock?
Yes. On Bedrock you can use a Fire Aspect weapon on candles, campfires and TNT to light them. Java doesn't allow this.
