Minecraft /tp Command: Teleport to Players and Coordinates

/tp 100 64 -200 sends you to coordinates and /tp Steve takes you to Steve. Relative and local positions, facing, other dimensions, and safe landings.

By minecraft.bd Editorial Team·Updated

/tp moves players or entities to coordinates or to another entity. /tp 100 64 -200 sends you to those coordinates, and /tp Steve takes you to Steve. /teleport is the same command with a longer name. Cheats must be on.

/tp syntax

Java Edition

/tp <destination>
/tp <x y z>
/tp <targets> <destination>
/tp <targets> <x y z> [<yaw> <pitch>]
/tp <targets> <x y z> facing <x y z>
/tp <targets> <x y z> facing entity <entity> [eyes|feet]

Bedrock Edition

/tp <destination> [checkForBlocks]
/tp <x y z> [checkForBlocks]
/tp <victim> <destination> [checkForBlocks]
/tp <victim> <x y z> [yRot] [xRot] [checkForBlocks]
/tp <victim> <x y z> facing <x y z or entity> [checkForBlocks]

Bedrock’s checkForBlocks set to true cancels the teleport if you’d land inside solid blocks. Java has no equivalent.

Three kinds of coordinates

  • Absolute: 100 64 -200, exact world position.
  • Relative (~): offsets from where you are. ~ ~10 ~ puts you 10 blocks up.
  • Local (^): offsets based on where you’re looking. ^ ^ ^5 moves you five blocks forward.

Examples

/tp 0 100 0
/tp ~ ~50 ~
/tp ^ ^ ^10
/tp Steve
/tp @a @s
/tp @e[type=cow] ~ ~ ~
/tp @s ~ ~ ~ 90 0
/tp @s ~ ~ ~ facing 0 64 0

/tp @a @s brings every player to you. /tp @e[type=cow] ~ ~ ~ gathers all loaded cows. 90 0 turns you to face west (yaw 90).

Moving between dimensions uses /execute:

/execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @s 0 80 0
/execute in minecraft:the_end run tp @s 100 60 0

On Bedrock, the dimension names are overworld, nether and the_end.

Finding where to go

Pair /tp with the /locate command to jump to the nearest stronghold or village. For coordinates on Java, open the F3 screen; on Bedrock, turn on “Show Coordinates” in world settings. Our page on how big a Minecraft world is explains the coordinate limits; you can’t teleport past the world border.

Common mistakes

  • Landing in stone. Teleporting to an underground Y puts you inside blocks. Pick a high Y and fall, or switch to spectator with /gamemode first.
  • Falling to death. A high Y with no landing means fall damage. Teleport into the air with Slow Falling, or in creative.
  • Target order. /tp A B moves A to B. Swap them if the wrong person moved.
  • Unloaded mobs. @e selectors only catch entities in loaded chunks.
  • Spawn point. /tp doesn’t change where you respawn. For that, see setting your spawn point.

Common questions

How do you teleport to another player?

Type /tp followed by their name: /tp Steve. To bring them to you, put their name first and yours second: /tp Steve YourName.

What is the difference between /tp and /teleport?

None. /tp is a shorter alias of /teleport in both editions.

How do you teleport to the Nether with a command?

Use /execute in. Java: /execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @s 0 80 0. Bedrock: /execute in nether run tp @s 0 80 0.
